Ranchers!
The US Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) is planning to revisit the listing decision for the Sonoran Desert tortoise.
What can we do?
The Winkelman NRCD and the Arizona Association of Conservation Districts worked with federal and state agencies several years ago to come up with Best Management Practices for Grazing in Sonoran Desert tortoise habitat. Nearly 3/4 of Arizona is in that habitat.
In case you missed the Winkelman NRCD’s educational workshop on July 21, you have another chance to attend this important training.
On Tuesday, August 31st, 2021, the Pima Natural Resource Conservation District/Pima Center for Conservation Education will conduct a training session on those Best management Practices to certify area ranchers and satisfy one of the agreements we made with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. By doing this, we will in effect keep grazing from being considered a threat to the tortoise if it is subsequently listed.
Do your part! Attend the training! Take two hours from one day and help yourself and your industry! Agenda: 2021-08-31-PNRCD SDT Workshop agenda
